Integrity and Professionalism
Our Firm
Founded in 1952
Alan H. English & Co. was established in Pietermaritzburg in 1952 by Alan English and he was later joined by Ian Tudball. Phil Harvey & John Clulow, both ex Deloitte professionals joined the practice in 1985.
In order to assist with the servicing of clients in other parts of KZN, a branch office was opened in Westville in 1990 to which Marc Goudge was appointed a partner. The firm enjoyed significant expansion, but retained the original ethos of integrity & professionalism.
In 2004 the Westville branch was incorporated into Alan H. English & Co. (KZN Coastal) Incorporated (“AHE”) with Marc Goudge and Sandra Bekker as its directors.
Sandra left the practice in 2012 to pursue her own interests and with the firm having grown exponentialy under Sandra’s and Marc’s guidance, this necessitated a merger into a larger firm.
After careful consideration, AHE merged into a mid-tier international firm, Mazars on 1 March 2013 where Marc fulfilled the role as predominantly an audit partner but retained his interest in taxation.
Our Vision
Marc Goudge re-established AHE when he left Mazars in November 2019 with the goal of re-launching AHE as a full-scale predominantly tax- based practice but still offering an extended range of services to entrepreneur -established businesses and professionals.
The vision was to re-launch a personal, hands on firm who really cares about making an impact on a company's bottom line and overall performance.
Eric McDonald joined Marc Goudge as a director in 2021 to work together to secure the practice’s long-term future success.
